World innovation with TerraSip mobile VoIP

Estepona, 21. March 2006

Now simply continue using virtual PSTN numbers free of charge with TerraSip VoWLAN.

For TerraSip members it is now possible to use the received landline number of another VoIP provider on a TerraSip member account.

Forwarding a geographical landline number on to the SIP account: Before TerraSip offers the geographical call numbers, the so-called DIDs (Direct Inward Dialling), in all countries, the developer team has built a very user-friendly new feature in the account software. If a user had already received a landline number from somewhere in the world from another VoIP provider and if he would like to use this number now in connection with his TerraSip account, then he can do this easily. He enters the account data of his previous provider within his personally protected area "MyTerraSip" and saves this data. In the same instant the forwarding of the received call number functions on his TerraSip account , i.e. the telephone configured with a TerraSip account rings, if the received landline number of the other x-arbitrary provider is called.

Accessibility with maximum flexibility: Many voice over IP users have accounts with different providers. A once received DID does not loose its value, if one decides to use another service. The crucial advantage is that the users friends, family and business partners remain accessible under the same number. Administering and communicating different numbers - possibly on different devices - is not necessary any more with this solution.

"It is a small but a very fine tool, which lends virtual landline numbers a larger range with minimum resources. Since a customer can attach and also restore this function again completely, we are thus able to provide this function absolutely free of charge. We are proud to promote innovative developments and the use of VoIP" says Daniel David, the project manager.

The service is immediately usable for all members of the TerraSip community.

Information to the provider TerraSip is a recent, globally aligned and world-wide operating enterprise. It offers free internet telephony per international SIP standard for TerraSip members. The membership is free. TerraSip's adjustment aims at mobile internet telephony, the voice over WLAN, briefly VoWLAN. Recently TerraSip started a first pilot project of VoWLAN with two WiFi network carriers in Germany and Austria, in order to test mobile internet telephony in the German-speaking countries.

VOIP - The Phone Service for your Internet

VOIP - The Phone Service for your Internet

What is it?

VOIP stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol. This means your voice will get sent across the Internet instead of through the traditional telephone circuit network.

The biggest question you may have is why should I consider VOIP service over traditional phone service?

This is the question I first had when considering VOIP as well. I found the advantages of VOIP far outweigh that of the traditional phone system. Among these advantages are significant cost savings, unlimited talking over both local and long distance, the ability to select any area code you want, and the huge amount of features available.

Cost Savings

The low-cost was my main reason for moving from the tradition phone system to VOIP. You can pay one low monthly fee and get all the features and advantages associated with Internet phone service. There are not near as many taxes and fees associate with VOIP phone service as there are with tradition phone providers. There are no surprises because you know your monthly rate.

Unlimited Minutes

Another huge advantage of VOIP is unlimited talking minutes for both local and long distance for one low fee. You could be in California and speak to someone in New York at anytime of day for as long as you want to without having to worry about per minute charges.

Portability

VOIP is a very portable service. It can be used permanently at home, or you can bring it with you while you travel. All you need is access to a high speed Internet connection. You can select any area code you wish to have your phone service through. This means you could have relatives a significant distance away whom you talk to quite often and you don't have to make them call long distance. This service benefited me very much while I was in college in Colorado and talking with my friends and parents in Michigan.

Features

Most of the extra features on traditional phone service lines can cost quite a bit of money. These features are now included as part of your normal rates with VOIP. These included features can include voicemail, caller id, call waiting, call forwarding, 3-way calling, and many, many more. I regularly receive voice messages and they are sent to my email as a sound attachment! I love the convenience.

Other Information

VOIP has so many advantages, but as with everything, there are potential downsides. The technology used by VOIP requires a high speed Internet connection such as DSL or Cable to function properly. There is plenty of bandwidth in DSL and Cable Internet services for VOIP to function properly, but dialup just doesn't provide the bandwidth necessary.

VoIP Phone Reviews

VoIP is the fastest growing internet communication service. With features and services not normally found in traditional landlines, it is fast becoming the number one choice of people.

At first, people have been skeptical to use VoIP but soon found out the effectiveness and convenience of VoIP.

VoIP phones are now changing people's perspective on the use of telephone. If you want a phone, it can be a good choice.

VoIP offers standard features that regular landline phones often charges extra. For instance, free or low cost long distance calls are often not available in regular landlines. This is because VoIP uses the internet to make a call. Since the internet offers free information, and fast communication, VoIP phones take advantage of this feature to transmit the calls free.

With a VoIP phone, you can take your personal number wherever you are. You can make and receive phone calls from your number even if you are traveling as long as there is an active internet connection to where you are going.

There are many VoIP broadband phone provider in the market today, choosing the right one would be very beneficial for your business or personal for your use.

Here are some of the things you should look for when choosing VoIP service providers:

Audio Quality Recent advancement in technology allows better sound quality with reduced noise. This means that a VoIP service provider should have excellent audio quality when making calls. If you experience lags or delays in your phone calls, you should think twice before subscribing to the company another time.

Little or no delay transmission is needed for your voice to reach the person you are calling. A one-second delay can mean the difference of making a simple answer of "yes" or "no". Remember that voice delays can mean misunderstanding, and precise answers are extremely important in businesses.

Reliability Imagine making an important business deal or talking to your family and friends and your call is suddenly cut off. This is a bad sign that your service provider is not making sure that you get your money's worth.

Get a VoIP service provider that offers maximum reliability and free try out periods to ensure you that they give the best service to their subscribers. Although cheap rates are attractive, try their services first before committing.

Customer Service VoIP service providers should offer customer support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This can help you if you ever have problems using VoIP.

The customer assistance service should be quick and take care of their subscribers immediately after making the call. Know if the VoIP service providers you are planning on subscribing have customer assistance. Customer service can be found in the VoIP service providers or by calling them.

Features VoIP service providers should offer standard features like; free long distance calls, emails, fax, web conferencing, and videophone and others for no extra fee at all. Still quite a few VoIP service providers out there charge for these extra features. Get a VoIP service provider that offers maximum standard features free.

Price VoIP is supposed to be free or cheap. Get a VoIP service provider that offer free long distance and low monthly payments. Make sure that not only it should be cheap but also offers quality service. Most providers offer trial periods, use this to determine if it is worth spending you hard earned cash.

However convenient it might be to own a VoIP phone, there are still drawbacks for it. For example, you should have a high-speed internet connected.

Since VoIP phones depends on your internet connection, this means that disconnected internet, no VoIP service. Slow internet connection is also a factor. With slow internet connection, expect audio delays.

It is wise that before getting a VoIP phone, you should determine that the internet connection in your area is broadband and reliable.

Here are some of the top VoIP service providers:

Vonage Sunrocket VoIP.net Time Warner Cable Packet8

If the following companies do not cover your area, you can always find VoIP providers in your area. Just make sure they offer quality services and choose one used by your family and friends so you can call them free, wherever they are.

VOIP against the traditional phone services

VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) - allows you to make telephone calls using a computer network in very simple way . It converts the voice signal from your telephone into a digital signal that's why you can speak to anyone with a regular phone number. You can change the way you think about long-distance phone calls. People generally like to use the new technology because its costs are less than traditional phone Below are listed some of the advantages and disadvantages of using VOIP .

VOIP offers you:
Lower costs per call, especially for long-distance calls VOIP can reduce international call tolls by as much as 40%. You can talk with many people at the same time without any additional cost. The call can be made to a local number, a mobile phone, to a long distance number or an international number - without any additional cost. You can also use services that are not available with a traditional phone - you can send data, like pictures and documents while talking on the phone. As long as you have access to a broadband connection you don't need to pay for roaming or long distance charges wherever you travel. That's why the VOIP is very important in business. You have also ability to receive internet phone calls anywhere you are, as long as you are accessible to the internet. One of the various advantages is that many services such as caller id, call forwarding, call waiting, three way calling, and voice mail features often come standard with most VOIP plans. Unfortunately I have to report some problem with the integration between VoIP system and Internet. The main problem is as you can imagine voice data communication must be a real time stream (you couldn't speak, wait for many seconds, then hear other side answering) - the risks involved with poor internet connections, lost signals, and dropped data packets. Below are listed of some other problems of using VOIP:

1. Not all VoIP services connect directly to emergency services.

2. The risks involved with poor internet connections, lost signals, and dropped data packets.

3. It only works if your computer is switched on and the VOIP software is running.

4. The other person with whom you are trying to communicate with has to get the same program loaded and running on his computer.

5. Poor quality of the sound- phone calls often have lot of delay with lot of echo.

6. To get lower bandwidth you need additional processing power that makes digital phones more expensive than analog phones.

7. You must have a DSL router or a second computer set up to run a second phone line. With traditional phone services, a phone jack is in almost every room.

Today we can see a real revolution in communication world.. That technology has the potential to completely rework the world's phone systems because the internet has grown very much in the last years and it is free that's why could be the right communication media for future. It may be the right solution but it may not be suitable for everyone.

Defining VoIP

If you ask any answering service owner what the biggest challenge that they face today almost all would answer employees. For a number of years employers have tried a number of methods to find a desirable employees to work in what is sometimes less than desirable circumstances. Today technology has delivered these answering service owners a new alternative; the stay at home operator.

Thanks to VoIP services it is very easy for an answering service operator to log on and work off premise with the same advantages as an operator has in the war room of the call center. There are several advantages to such technology and call centers who have implemented these advances are seeing major changes. Some of these answering services virtually had to beg for employees and the pickings were slim. Now these same businesses actually have a waiting list for employees, with highly qualified candidates.

Another advantage to the stay at home operator is that it allows the answering service to be able to fill peak time periods and cover absenteeism more efficiently. The answering service now has alternatives when there are weather related emergencies as well as filling those difficult to handle shifts. There are offices that will staff overnight shifts with work at home operators.

Still other offices have been slow to embrace this type of technology while other offices reluctantly use this technology only for emergencies or supervisory tasks. There is a general misconception that these operators are more difficult to supervise and that the only way to run a call center is from a centralized location. With the advanced statistical reporting capabilities that most answering services possess, coupled with voice recording technology these employees are as easy to supervise as they would be in your office.

As the answering services that utilize at home operators continue to flourish, others are following their lead. At home operators now make up the fastest growing segment of employees in the answering service industry. In addition this new trend seems to be an alternative to overseas outsourcing. With the advantages offered to work at home operators, answering service owners and the industry as a whole, stay at home agents seem to be the trend of the future.

Equipment You Need For Voip

Copyright 2006 Dave Markel

There is a gradation between the means of communication via VoIP.

First come simple VoIP software (so called soft phones) that is installed on your computer, assuming that computer has a broadband internet connection. The most famous are Skype, Net2Phone, Free World Dialup, Gizmo etc. In order to chat using this applications you should install appropriate software. As you know most of VoIP software is absolutely free. Of course you need to have sound card in your computer and speakers (headset) with the microphone attached.

The calls all over the world are free of charge as long as you are making a call from one computer to another. For a small fee (smaller then simple phone to cellular or landline call) you can still talk using your software. Soft phones support such features as call forwarding, voicemail, conference calls and even video data transmission.

After software means of VoIP Internet phones come. They do not require headsets or speakers. They look and act like common push-button phones. Such devices work when connected directly to the sound card or USB port. Though they are external they still are treated as soft phones due to the necessity of software installation for signal transmission.

The next device on the VoIP scale of ranks is an Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA). This adapter is an analog telephone and broadband device go-between. The service of connection and terms of payment while using ATA is similar to simple contract with the phone company. You pay fixed monthly charge to your VoIP service provider. And of course such service can last as long as you need and can be stopped at your command. The advantage of such a telephone adapter is that you do not need computer at all. You just simply connect any analog telephone adapter to the DSL or cable modem via ATA and enjoy the conversation.

When you are at home you can call or pick up the phone and no one will ever know that you are using VoIP instead of landline. If you are going somewhere away from the house you can take ATA with you. Just connect it to modem to receive phone calls that will be routed exactly to the device without the rising in cost.

At last but not list in the scales of rank stand IP phones. There are a lot of differences between IP and Internet phones. For example Internet phones need to have software installed on your PC, but IP phones already have built-in software. Internet phones are connected to the computer that is connected to the modem. But IP phones are plugged directly to the modem just like ATA. And just like ATA you cal call and receive calls from every place you find broadband modem. Along all the advantages of IP phones they are much more compact and have a lot of useful functions like additional memory to store phone calls.

What Do I Need For VoIP?

You can try out VoIP for free! All you need is a headset attached to the sound card of your computer. Next, download one of the many VoIP software packages. Skype, Gizmo, Free World Dialup, and Net2Phone are some of the big names. With the software installed, invite all your friends to download the same software and when someone is up and running, give them a call!

Most of these "soft phones" (as they are called) allow you to make and receive calls at no charge anywhere in the world as long as you are not connecting to a cellular or landline phone. They are easy to use ? simply click on a contact name to initiate a call. Features such as call display, call forwarding, voicemail, and conference calls are included at no extra charge as long as both parties are using computers.

A step up from headsets is Internet phones. These feel a lot more like "real" telephones -- they ring, they have regular number pads, and you use them like traditional telephones. They plug into the USB port or sound card of your computer. These phones are still considered soft phones because you need VoIP software installed on your computer to make and receive telephone calls.

As we progress up the VoIP ladder the next is an ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) which allows you to connect a traditional analog telephone to a broadband modem. ATA's are usually provided free of charge when you sign up with a VoIP service provider. This is similar to signing up with a regular phone company -- there is a monthly charge and you may have to sign a contract tying you into the service for a certain period of time.

The ATA is simple to use. It connects to a broadband modem - either a DSL modem connected to your traditional phone line or a cable modem which attaches to your cable TV connection. Any traditional analog telephone can be plugged into an ATA. You do not even need a computer in the house to use this type of VoIP connection.

Using an ATA for Internet phone calls is transparent. You simply pick up the phone and dial a number just as you would with your regular phone service. Anybody calling your phone number will not be aware that you are using VoIP instead of PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network).

If you are travelling, you can take your ATA with you and receive phone calls anywhere in the world by connecting it to a broadband modem. Any calls to your phone number will be routed to your ATA (which has an identification number making it unique in the world) at the same cost as the call to your residence or business would cost.

The third option for VoIP is to have an IP phone. Don't confuse IP phones and Internet Phones. IP phones plug directly into the modem, but Internet phones plug into the sound card or USB port of your computer. An IP phone is a handset which has all the necessary hardware and software installed in it. You connect an IP phone to a broadband modem and make or receive calls the same way that you would make or receive calls with an ATA. The advantage of an IP phone over an ATA is that you do not need an extra telephone set to plug into the ATA -- it is a completely integrated unit.

IP phones also have the advantage of having all your phone numbers stored in the phone as well as a display screen which gives you information about incoming calls.

How Does Voip Work?

Copyright 2006 Dave Markel

To make your VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) work good enough you need to have broadband internet connection. Internet broadband connections are represented with cable or DSL modems with bandwidth of 56 kbits and higher.

The main idea of VoIP is voice connection using computers. All you need is appropriate software installed on your computer and microphone with a headset or speakers connected. Do not forget that using such software is free and easy to download.

Unlike computer-to-computer calls which are free of charge VoIP software is also used as simple trunk-line. But even so such calls are still cheaper then phone-to-phone ones.

Remember- to make computer-to-computer calls you should run the same software at both sides. But in case of making cellular or land-line call via VoIP no extra software or equipment is needed.

How does it work?

All internet transmissions including VoIP appear to be digital data that travels through the telephone, optical fiber or even satellite lines. To transmit the voice signal VoIP software must convert human (analog) voice to the set of 1s and 0s (digital data). It is done with the help of ADC (analog-to-digital converters) and codecs which compress and decompress (on receive) data to make it more compact during transfer.

Compressed data is divided into packets. Without going into details i can say that these packets consist of the header and the body. Headers contain source and destination addresses and other system data. And the body is the spitted and compressed audio file.

All data transmitted over internet follows the set of rules gathered in the models (OSI, TCP/IP). Models consist of layers that represent particular network function.

Video and audio transmission use the set of protocols originally developed or changed for faster work over the internet. Transport layer in VoIP is usually represented with User Datagram Protocol (UDP). And the application layer is Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP).

Drop of delayed packets is the main advantage of RTP. By doing so the VoIP software skips the delayed packets that must be reassembled and decoded. It is quite preferable because it prevents undesirable pauses in the conversation. Even if the amount of dropped packets is big enough the conversation is still legible. Of course, the better internet connection you possess- the better conversation you'll be having after the remote software will receive, reassemble and decode data into the analog signal (human voice).

As Predicted, 2005 was the year VoIP hit the Mainstream

As Predicted, 2005 was the year VoIP hit the Mainstream A stable call accounting system is critical in this new VoIP environment Having a stable call accounting system that provides accurate call detail records is critical in this new VoIP environment. A recent article (http://www.b-eye-network.com/view/2027), talks about how VoIP has come forward in the mainstream and that the key to VoIP is the ability to provide accurate and sustainable billing and operational support systems.

"VoIP is not a new invention from the last six months.... But when the Economist puts the "death" of the traditional telecom service provider on the cover in association with eBay's purchase of Skype, it appears that VoIP has hit the mainstream.

VoIP is moving out of the corporate PBX and PC attached headset. In fact, you can now have a home VoIP conversation on a "phone." The conversation quality is constantly improving as well. This is providing a meaningful substitute to traditional wireline and wireless telecom service providers. As stated in Porter's Power of the Substitute, some combinations of VoIP and various transmission networks are amazing.

What does VoIP mean for business intelligence?

Billing World and other similar organizations believe that the key to VoIP is the ability to provide accurate and sustainable billing and operational support systems (B/OSS). Such organizations are the B/OSS community! Hopefully, they are taking this approach. Carolyn Schuk's article on VoIP fraud shows exactly how much residential and corporate VoIP providers have to lose if they do not provide that robust B/OSS infrastructure.

From customer care to provisioning to billing, maintaining the "standards" set by the existing telecom industry is a good way for VoIP providers to win customers from the remaining group of traditional providers. But I do not believe that B/OSS, the traditional customer care center, will be the answer. The answer is in the transition from the customer care call center to the self supported activation, provisioning and care for a VoIP customer.

For the VoIP provider's business intelligence organization, this will require new ways of including the customer in the loop for accurate billing, fraud detection and network outages. While the big challenge is to avoid the classic Dilbert moment where you must report network performance problems, but you cannot because the network is having the performance problems."

Having a stable call accounting system that provides accurate call detail records is critical in this new environment.

The Increasing Popularity Of Wireless VOIP Phones In The Workplace

Voice over Internet protocol (VOIP) phones have been commonplace in the workplace for several years now. As the technology begins to make its way to the average consumer's home, it's only fitting that some newer and more exciting technology begins to replace existing VOIP systems in business and industry. That is where wireless VOIP phones enter the picture. Capitalizing and building upon the efficiency, ease of use, and cost-effectiveness of standard VOIP technology, wireless VOIP technology has made its entrance in many types of businesses, giving employees everywhere more flexibility and communications options. And it looks like the technology is here to stay.

The use of wireless VOIP phones is an obvious and smart thing for retail businesses, schools, and even hospitals to consider using. No longer is there a need for an organization to have separate systems for work (computer-based) and voice communications (telephone-based). Business-related work and communications can be all-inclusive. Wireless VOIP phone systems give employees, especially those tied to a phone throughout their work day, the freedom to move about within their office building or complex, and still have the ability to communicate with customers and business associates. For businesses and other organizations that already have an IP communication system in place, it is the next logical step to move to wireless VOIP phones. They operate in the same way as standard VOIP phones, except that they function on a wireless local area network (WLAN). By staying in range of a wireless connection at the site, a user can make and receive calls just as they can with standard VOIP phone systems.

There are many specific types of organizations that can benefit from the use of wireless VOIP phones. Hospitals, for example, allow employees who spend a lot of their time on the telephone communicating with physicians, insurance companies, and with other hospital personnel within the building will see the huge benefit in being able to move freely within a workspace, carry out necessary communications, and accomplish more than one task at a given time. Retail stores also will see a huge advantage to using wireless VOIP phones, for much the same reason. The freedom to communicate with customers and business associates over the phone, while still being able to travel throughout the workplace has the potential to show an increase in work efficiency and time management. Schools can also benefit by using this technology. By providing staff, faculty, and security with wireless VOIP phones, student data is accessible over the phone, school emergencies can be handled much more quickly and efficiently, and teachers can communicate with one another whether in a classroom or in the cafeteria or on the playground.

The advantages of using this technology are apparent. Besides the freedom it provides, wireless VOIP phone systems allow organizations to combine communications to include phone communications, email, and text messaging, allowing them to work together in one system. This efficiency is a time saver, as well as a money saver. Speaking of saving money, organizations will find that they can avoid lengthy contracts with phone companies in favor of wiring systems that give the businesses more options.

There is a downside to this seemingly ideal technology. In a wireless VOIP phone system, the number of calls that can be placed by callers at a time is limited. An access point in a system can't handle more than a few calls at a time. This limited capacity, therefore, has resulted in the inability for many types of businesses to use wireless VOIP phone technology. Businesses and industries that require huge volumes of communication on a constant basis would simply overload a wireless network. Despite this limitation, technology will no doubt catch up in the near future, and be able to provide wireless VOIP phone service to every level of business and industry, no matter how large.

Wireless VOIP phone systems are an exciting technology for the business world to embrace. Freedom, flexibility, efficiency, as well as potentially huge cost savings are but a few of the advantages this form of multi-level communication has the ability to provide its subscribers and users. Many organizations have currently incorporated wireless VOIP phones into their daily workplace with great success, including hospitals and schools. Wireless VOIP phones are a smart consideration to make in order to stay on the cusp of technology.

Voip - 3 Ways To Make The Call

We're hearing a lot about Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) these days. I for one am a big fan of this technology. Did you know that you could actually use VoIP in 3 different ways? That's right! There are really 3 different ways that you can 'make the call'. Ok, you can actually receive the call 3 different ways as well.

First up is probably the most popular. I use this way myself and most of the residential providers out there today use this as well. What is it?

ATA - Analog Telephone Adapter

Your normal phone plugs into an ATA that you received from your VoIP provider. This is the most common way to get hooked into VoIP. This device takes care of all the magic that occurs when you make and receive your calls over your broadband connection. Your analog phone signal must be converted to digital to be routed through your broadband connection and this ATA does the job.

IP Phone - Internet Protocol Phones

As the name would imply, these are 'special' phones. You wouldn't know it by looking at them. They look like normal phones. What is different about these phones is the electronics inside them and the fact they don't take a 'regular' phone cable (RJ-11). Instead these phones take an Ethernet cable connection (RJ-45) and also come equipped with the necessary electronics to plug directly into your router.

Computer-to-Computer

This is the oldest and possibly the easiest way to get plugged into VoIP. Here instead of using your normal phone or IP phone to make calls through your broadband connection, you use your computer itself! (You could do this over dial-up, but broadband is certainly better) There are a number of services available that offer no cost or low cost service. You'll need the software and a microphone to speak into and speakers to hear from and of course your computer and a high-speed internet connection. Some providers offer this service for free when their software is being used on both ends of the call.

Watch out for Wi-Fi (using IP phones) and other advancements in VoIP technology. We truly are on the verge of a major breakthrough in telecommunications. So, what are you waiting for? Make the call!

VoIP Phone System

VoIP Phone System is the latest revolution in the field of phone systems, where you can send and receive the voice calls through a computer network, instead of using a traditional telephone for the same purpose. VoIP Phone System is very simple to use. What you require is your traditional phone, an adaptor to make your traditional phone completely ready for using talkdigits VoIP Phone Service, and a broadband Internet connection. Is this all. Hang On! Hang On!.You do need another very important thing, subscription to talkdigits to carry forward the use of VoIP Phone System.

VoIP Phone System uses the secure, reliable, and fast mode to transmit your data from one end to another. We use a very simple methodology. For example, You dial your friend's talkdigits number. Your friend picks up the receiver and says "Hello". The conversation between two of you is started. What we do is, we convert your voice into tiny packets of information and transmit those tiny packets across our talkdigits VoIP phone network. You can say a path to carry forward your voice. When these packets reach to the other point, it is converted back into your original voice. This is our technology and this complete procedure is completed at the blink of your eye. You can rather say at the speed of light. While transmitting, your data is in the coded format so it is absolutely secure.

You can enjoy the benefits of VoIP Phone System, which is completely changing your lifestyle, providing you a smooth and secure mode of communication broadly to make and receive calls and utilize other benefits such as international calling, 3-way calling, conferencing, faxing, audio blogging either free of cost or on the cheapest possible rates.

How Using A VoIP Phone Service Can Cost You Your Life

VoIP Phones are all the rage. These Internet phones are becoming increasingly popular with the general public as well as among the technologically gifted avant-garde i.e. geeksRus. Chances are high you know someone who uses one or you may even use one yourself.

But did you know it can cost you your life?

We will get to this life-threatening issue later but first you should have a basic understanding of what a VoIP phone is and how it works.

VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. These phones are also commonly referred to as Voice over IP or Voice over Internet. VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol is a way of using analog audio signals, like on your regular phone, and turning these signals into digital data that's transmitted over the Internet instead of over conventional phone lines.

How does it Work?

A Voip Phone Service can work on any computer that has broadband connectivity. If you have a headset/microphone, along with a Voip phone system set-up or software program installed on your computer, you can place calls from your computer or laptop to anywhere in the broadband-connected world. Assuming that your friends have the same software set-up or have a Voip Phone Service from many of the commercial providers, you should be able to communicate, i.e. talk to each other.

It basically works by sending small packets of data from one computer to another over the Internet. And since it uses the Internet, the route these data transfers take is as varied and as wide as the Internet itself. You call a phone number and the data is sent to your VoIP company's call processor. The call processor connects you to your friend's phone and a session is formed between your computer and your friend's computer. Your call can now be handled as if it were an e-mail or a web page but each system must have the same protocol in order for you to communicate or talk.

This may be over-simplifying things a bit, but this method is less expensive than a conventional phone system.

Many VoIP companies offer many services that a traditional phone company will charge you an arm or leg for! These include: Caller ID, Call transfer, Call waiting, Return call, Repeat dial, and Three-way calling. And because it is over the Internet you can check your voicemail via the Web - you may even attach messages that's sent to your computer or handheld.

VoIP Phone Services have many advantages over the traditional system, mainly its cheap price and availability or access. As the broadband world increases, VoIP phones may become even more popular.

So what's the Problem with using VoIP Phones?

There are some major hurdles Voip Phone users should be awareof and it is where the life saving advice comes in.

The VoIP Phone is only as good as the Internet system or computer you're using. There may be down times, for example, if you lose your power - a Voip phone will not work, whereas a regular wall phone or conventional phone will. In many natural disasters, be it a blizzard, tornado or hurricane, the power is sometimes the first utility that fails. Communications often become critical in these situations and being stuck with only a powerless VoIP phone may pose a problem. Assuming, of course, you don't have your VoIP Phone hooked up to a portable Wi-Fi battery operated laptop!

You must also keep in mind that your laptop or computer must be able to handle the phone calls, other programs running on your system may disrupt or distort your voip signals if your computer is overloaded or not powerful enough.

Next, perhaps the most important concern, Emergency 911 calls are a real challenge with VoIP. VoIP phones uses IP-addressed phone numbers and not NANP phone numbers. There's no way to tell the geographic location with an IP address; thus routing the emergency call may pose a problem for 911 operators. Obviously, this is not good in an emergency of any kind!

No doubt this hurdle will be fixed in the very near future as Voip Phones become more commonplace and integrated neatly in the wireless Wi-Fi systems/networks around the world. But for now, it is something every VOIP Phone user should be made aware of and prepare for in the case your VOIP phone becomes your only lifeline.

Another challenge, as more and more voip phones come online - there is no world-wide standard in place. This would include hardware and protocols that would make this system work anywhere in the world.

Despite these hurdles and challenges, many believe VoIP Phone Services will eventually replace the traditional phone lines over time. But the revolution is just starting! According to the Forrester Research Group only 5 million U.S. households will be using VoIP phones by the end of 2006.

However, it doesn't take a Crystal Ball or even the Forrester Research Group to tell us we are becoming more and more of a 'wireless world'. VoIP Phones will find themselves 'center stage' in our ever increasing technologically enhanced universe. No doubt, neatly blended into some fully loaded portable, Video/VoIP Phone, XM radio, Search Engine, Wi-Fi, GPS Emergency Beacon, Computer Handheld Contraction. As long as we can keep our 'heads attached' until this technotopia item comes along - we should be ok.

Hey, when Google finally decides to build that Google Box, maybe someone should suggest they load it up with a few extra goodies. Can we talk?

Why Business Should Switch to VoIP

Company should choose to unplug and switch to VoIP technology because there are many advantages for using VoIP. Here is an overview of five reasons that your business should make the switch to VoIP.

VoIP is perfect for Call Centers

VoIP is slowly becoming the standard choice for Call Centers. VoIP offers some major benefits for Call Centers such as flexibility, cost efficiency, and enhanced customer service applications. For instance, in the past, a Call Center needed to be a stabilized facility equipped with many phone lines used by people who would physically be located in the Call Center. By using VoIP for your Call Center, not only is your main location easily relocated as your business expands, but you can hire employees virtually world wide. Larger companies take advantage of VoIP Call Centers by outsourcing work overseas where they can hire employees for less.

The Integration of data, audio, and web based features is another reason why businesses are opting for VoIP. Customer service calls are handled more efficiently with the integration of these three components. Not only are calls transferred more proficiently, but also greater care can be given to customers when Call Centers use integrated software platforms.

More Call Centers are taking advantage of the opportunity to hire employees world wide through VoIP services. Employees may work in different time zones, giving greater customer service benefits year round, and hiring home based employees is another way businesses are choosing to save money.

VoIP is better for Mobile Employees

Many companies employ mobile workers. Mobile Employees have typically used cell phones at the company's expense to stay in touch during the day. By utilizing VoIP Mobile Employees can remain virtually connected with the company, and the company saves money on fees.

When mobile employees rely on cell phones, many times a customer will call the main office, only to hear a message or be told the worker's cell phone number. This requires the customer to hang up and call the employee on their cell phone- increasing the chance that the employee will lose the sale. By using VoIP, a call is instantly routed to the mobile employee and productivity increases.

Since VoIP integrates many other technologies, including E-mail, mobile employees are able to conduct many more transactions with one application.

VoIP Reduces Cost

Businesses today depend upon telecommunications. Whether it is Internet, E-mail, Customer Service through telephone, online web applications, and E-mail, or whatever your IT business needs may be, VoIP offers to handle all of your needs with one application. Additionally, this reduces cost and increases productivity. VoIP also has combined with software applications that are perfect for many business needs. Software such as accounting programs, Email, and PC based applications help to save money by combining services.

The reduction in long distance charges is another great advantage for switching to VoIP for business needs. By combining data, video, and audio needs, companies save on bandwidth usage, which ultimately leads to financial savings.

VoIP allows Real Time Global Conferencing

Global conferencing and training can put a burden on a business. Attempts to reach employees worldwide are not only expensive but time consuming as well. With VoIP technology businesses can avoid conferencing costs, and enable secure audio and videoconferences to offices worldwide. By reducing long distance costs, employees are also taking advantage of calling each other and corporate headquarters more frequently.

VoIP offers Flexibility that Ultimately Increases Productivity VoIP allows greater flexibility. By using a standard VoIP Phone Adapter, you are able to take your telephone number with you. This allows greater productivity by allowing employees to conduct business overseas, while traveling, staying in hotels, etc. Your customers will be able to call you on your regular business phone number, and you won't have to use your cell phone.

Many VoIP services are fully integrated with PC applications such as fax and email. There is greater productivity when employees can integrate their email and phone services with one application. Conduct business with VoIP on your laptop, any time day or night.

With the option to get VoIP phone numbers with area codes throughout the country, and some world wide, businesses can expand by choosing local area codes for the city, state, or country they are targeting.

Stay Connected With Your Downline Using Free VoIP

Over the last few years I have noticed a large amount of my downline, sponsors and clients often have terrible phone calling plans depending on where they live. One of the top skills we as sponsors in our programs continually teach our teams to pick up the phone and call their downlines in an effort to help those people achieve success.

If you live in a good part of the country or a country that offers great phone calling plans you don't have much to worry about. However if you are unfortunate to live where the plan is very expensive, you may not be in a position to call your team properly. Keep in mind that a phone call can make the difference between getting an active member or losing that member for good.

So how do you solve this problem if you are an online marketer or business owner but you're one of the unfortunate people who cannot afford to call as much as you should? I may have a simple solution for you that will not break the bank. VOIP is Voice Over Internet Protocol. In other words you use your PC and your internet connection to make telephone calls for free or low monthly plans. You can even pay as you go in some cases.

Google Talk:
If you don't mind registeting for a free Gmail account at Google they offer free VOIP service that enables you to call or send instant messages your team, family and friends. Offering a quick download it should only take you about 3 minutes on a modem ( files size: 900K). One notable item is that it requires Windows XP/2000 with a minimum of a 56k (broadband recommended) connection. Dial up will work however broadband will be easy to talk and IM your friends.

iConnectHere | Broadband Phone:
What's nice about iConnectHere is it's low normal plans starting under twenty dollars. They will help you "Hang up on High Prices" as their slogan says. iConnectHere Broadband Phone offers low calling rates maybe the lowest in the world for your local, long distance and international telephone needs. Imagine being able to call that lead from Austailia! Their plans could save you up to 80% when compared with traditional phone service according to thier sites information. Plus their plans include bundled features at no extra cost.

As you can see just from the two services above you do now have a way to connect with your new referrals, sponsors, customers or even your family and friends can use free VOIP to cut costs. Using these types of services will help improve your support to your downline and won't cost you like it does when you use a land line phone system with their high cost calling plans.

If that's not enough for you here are two more services that will make it easy for you to contact the important people in your online business. This service is called Skype where the whole world can talk for free according to the Skype website.

Using the service Skype provides, you can call ordinary phone numbers all over the world. if your downline member has a bad calling plan as well Skype is a little program that allows anyone to make free calls over the internet to anyone else who also has the Skype software which is free, easy to download and to use. It also knows how to play nice with most computers available today.

Skype also offers Voicemail which lets you direct your incoming calls when you?re busy or offline to your voicemail. Your downline will be happy they can get in contact with you when they have questions.

NetZero also offers you a service where you can call people anywhere in the world from your computer for free. NetZero Voice makes calling as easy as instant messaging, except instead of typing (chatting) you are talking over your Internet connection for free.

Simple to use as with other similar services you just download the software, sign-in with your NetZero member ID and dial any NetZero member ID to begin talking for free and it works with dial-up or broadband.

Either way you look at it, now you can and really you should select one of these types of services so you can enable voice communications with your new referrals and customers. It just makes sense as people buy from people not websites or buildings. They buy from you, if you call them! Get VOIP and get in touch with them today! VoIP for Corporate Users

In the constant battle to reduce expenses, and improve the overall bottom line, many corporations have begun to see the potential of VoIP internet telephony as a more efficient way to handle their telecommunications related needs.

When setting up a VoIP infrastructure, most corporations choose to extensively compare VoIP providers, in order to ensure that they're getting the best deal possible.

Large companies and government organizations often elect to create their own private VoIP networks, to guarantee maximal quality and security. Smaller companies generally find it more cost effective to use internet-based broadband phone services, which have now reached an almost perfect level of quality, and are available at extremely low rates.

Voip - Voice Over IP and Business: Is It For You?

VoIP allows users to make phone calls using their high-speed Internet connection. This
translates into free, or very low cost long-distance calling. Because VoIP uses the power of
the Internet, traditional phone companies are left completely out of the loop. Of course, now
that the idea of VoIP is catching on more and more, traditional phone companies are developing
and offering their own VoIP options so as not to be left out. From the consumer's point of
view, this competition is keeping options open and pricing low. For businesses, this is
particularly good news, since many VoIP providers will want the business of business--this is a
huge market, which providers are aware, of, so the savvy businessperson will take advantage of
this, conduct thorough research, and seek out the best possible option to meet the company's
needs.

What are the Pros to Using VoIP?

Cost is a number one factor. If your business does a high volume of long distance calling, this
can be an extremely affordable way to go. Another positive is that the future of long distance
calling is VoIP. As time passes, more and more options will be available and the market will
become even more competitive. It is also easy to use, although a business set-up will be more
complicated than a home set-up.

What are the Cons?

One disadvantage that many users report is that there tends to be an "echo" when using VoIP.
How much of a disadvantage this is may depend on the user. There can also be a slight lag at
the beginning of the conversation.

Another potential disadvantage is that the technology is fairly new. As VoIP becomes standard,
improvements will take place. In the meantime, it is up to each business to determine if this
is a way to go.

Also, because VoIP operates through your Internet connection, should you lose Internet service
for whatever reason or power, you will not have phone access until the service or power is
restored.

Is VoIP Right for my Business?

As with any business decision, you should examine your needs and available services before
making a purchasing decision. VoIP may produce substantial savings, but it could also produce
substantial headaches. Whether or not your company can navigate potential glitches with minimal
interruption is something you need to determine. Many traditional service providers offer
competitive pricing, and the security of the existing structure may not be worth the potential
problems with VoIP. It is also necessary to price and compare the technical requirements; will
your existing structure support VoIP, or will the investment in technology offset the potential
savings?

VoIP Business Options

On the bright side, because VoIP is a growing service, many companies provide business
solutions and the offers and pricing are competitive. One thing to consider as you compare
options is contract terms. Because the technology is expanding, it is wise to avoid any long-
term contract, as a better option may come along in the meantime. A variety of companies offer
business solutions. The following list is just a few:

Sprint: http://www.sprint.com/business/products/categories/voip.jsp

Lingo: http://www.lingo.com/voip/business/unlimited_internet_phone_ service.jsp

Quest: http://www.qwest.com/largebusiness/products/voip/

Pipex: http://www.pipex.net/products/voip/

How to Get Set Up for VoIP The technology required will depend on the service you choose. There
are three types of VoIP methods.

ATA stands for analog telephone adaptor. It connects to your computer or Internet
connection and uses regular phone.

IP phones are special phones that look like traditional phones, but they connect with
an Ethernet connector.

Computer-to-computer is an easy way to use VoIP and long distance calls are free; you
only pay for the software. While this method can work in a business setting, it may not be the
best solution, even though it is very cost effective.

VoIP requires a high-speed Internet connection, and for business purposes, your set-up needs to
be able to handle the additional use that VoIP incurs. Essentially, there is no "one size fits
all" set-up guide for business VoIP options. The service you choose and your company's
individual requirements will determine what you will need.
